Jati Cheed is an British Indian singer whose vocals have featured on tracks by renowned Bhangra producers such as Panjabi By Nature, Ominous DJs and DJ Dips.

From the Midlands, the hub of British Bhangra, it was almost inevitable that Jati would become a part of it too. Mohammad Rafi and Kishore Kumar, DCS, Sahotas, B21, Shaan, Backstreet boys, Boys II Men and Michael Jackson are just some of Jati’s inspirations and it’s quite apparent in his sound which fuses Indian with a hint of RnB, Pop and Hip Hop.

His affair with music started young. He’s been playing the keyboard since the age of 10 and at the age of 15, Jati started Indian classical training with Meena Kumari. It was when his school friends decided to put together a band ‘Aaj Kal Deh Mudeh’ AKDM, he started to really recognise his talent and realise his calling.

With his group, Jati started performing Bhangra numbers at school events and through his college years, playing local gigs and festivals. The band parted ways when the members went their separate ways for university, but Jati continued working on a solo career. This is where the young singers’ passion really took hold and Jati started to take the possibility of a singing career seriously.

Having created some noise with AKDM, it wasn’t long before producers came knocking. His first track ‘Jaan’ was released on ‘Realism Vol. 1’ and he then got the attention of Panjabi By Nature who went on to use Jati on his smash hit compilation album – ‘Jaan Panjabi’ on the track ‘Dil Mitran’. The success of these two releases gained interest from record labels and Jati went on to sign with 4Play Recordings.

Jati’s first projects with the label were with his label mates, Ominous DJs and DJ Dips. In 2007, he recorded ‘Chargaiye’ and ‘Rumaal’ for Ominous DJ’s ‘Bas Kar’ album. More recently Jati has been heard on DJ Dips’ 2009 release ‘Nach Nach’ from the album ‘Stand Up Vol.:1’.

His sound envelopes the various inspirations and influences of being a British Asian. Passionate about Panjabi culture yet a fan of mainstream music, Jati’s effortlessly combines both east and west influences. His voice shows versatility of being able to handle a traditional Bhangra track as well as a pop number.

Jati is currently working on his debut album which will feature Bee2, Dipps Bhamrah, DJ Dips, Mentor and 5am on production. Showcasing further musical talents, Jati will also be producing on the album. The first track to be released from the album will be ‘Same Cliché’.
